Luckily, they were helped through their journey by a great vocal coach—the one and only Barry Manilow. Bobby Bennett’s grandmother must be kicking herself right now. American Idol 5: Simon’s Predicts the Winners

Judge Simon Cowell made some interesting comments this week on Howard Stern’s radio program. Never shy about announcing his favorites, Simon made his predictions for the Top Three: Chris Daughtry, Taylor Hicks…and Kellie Pickler?? If Kellie’s keeps performing as well as she did last week, she shouldn’t make it past Week 3. But if the Web site Votefortheworst.com has it’s way, Pickler will be in the Final Two…right up there with Kevin Covais. Determined to keep the worst singer on the show to make the competition more interesting, the site is currently throwing its weight behind the red-head. Should he get knocked off any time soon, their next target will be Pickler. Gre-aat.

The Simpsons Extended For Two More Seasons

Already the longest-running television comedy, Fox is announcing that The Simpsons will be extending its reign even further. Expect to be watching the antics of Homer and clan for another two years. The show, 400-episodes-old this May, will soon reach an unprecedented 18th and 19th seasons. D’oh! The second-longest running comedy ever, The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, only made it through its 15th.

Comcast To Offer Independent Films

For those who know me, it’s no secret that I don’t like to venture out much to watch independent movies. It’s not because I don’t like them—in fact I tend to enjoy more independent features than I do movies from major production companies. And it’s not because I’m cheap—though I do find current ticket prices extremely outrageous.
It’s because I hate the thread-barren seats. And the smells. And the sticky floors. Everything that I associate with a cheap movie theater. Call me a snob—but I don’t like being uncomfortable when I’m watching a movie. And now thanks to IFC, I may not have to be any more.
Starting Wednesday, March 22nd, Comcast will be teaming up with IFC to offer up about two dozen movies per year at the same time they are released in theaters. Big indie hits already associated with IFC include My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Boy’s Don’t Cry and Fahrenheit 9/11. The movies, available through Comcast’s On Demand service, will be priced at $5.99.

Donald Trump Has Another Production: A Baby Boy

Instead of setting aside time to watch himself on TV, Donald Trump will have other issues to attend to tonight: promoting the birth of his new baby boy, Barron William Trump. Donald made it no secret that he would be outside the delivery room during the actual birth, so it was no surprise that he was doing a phone interview with MSNBC less than 30 minutes after his new son’s arrival this morning. He followed up that stint with a call to Live With Regis and Kelly later in the day. In case you missed him, be sure to look for him on every other celebrity news magazine in the upcoming week. This is the fourth child, and second son, for Donald and the first for his wife, Melania.
Prison Break Returns

After a 15-week hiatus, Prison Break finally returns to Fox this Monday night. Although the show is returning to its old day, its being welcomed to an earlier time (8pm) thanks to the old veteran, 24. When we last left the show, Michael Scofield and his fellow inmates were on the verge of rescuing his brother, Lincoln, from the electric chair. Of course, a wrench in their plan looked to foil everything and left viewers with a nail-biting cliffhanger. Will the prison break ever happen? Of course, it will. But the bigger question is—will the show be able to regain the momentum it had right after its heavily-hyped fall debut? Out of sight usually means out of mind, but being partnered with action hit, 24, could give the CBS comedy lineup some nice competition.

The American Idol contestants got to start off the first week of finals on a very high note. A Stevie Wonder night? How much bigger could it get? Unfortunately, singing the songs of such a legend can only bring high expectations along with it. Were the contestants up to the challenge? And more importantly—who would sing “You Are the Sunshine of My Life”? (My early prediction was Kevin Covais). Let’s see if I was right…

The CW Wants To Resurrect Seventh Heaven

After 10 seasons, the family drama Seventh Heaven was slated for demise by its network, the WB. The newly formed CW has other ideas.
The new network, regardless of waning ratings, apparently believes the show is worth renewing. The merging of the WB and UPN has already caused turmoil with reported show cancellations. This move seems even more puzzling. Is it a good idea to renew a show that shows all the signs of needing to be cancelled? What do you think?

Ed ‘Al Bundy’ O’Neill Returns To Television Comedy

The show doesn’t have a title yet, but it has already garnered plenty of buzz, thanks to its leading man. Beloved character actor Ed O’Neill, most famous for his portrayal of browbeaten slob Al Bundy on the long-running comedy Married With Children, will star in a family comedy pilot on CBS. The show will center on a newly married couple who must deal with the complications and trials of living near their families. We applaud the return of this talented actor. Will the show be as groundbreaking as the notoriously raunchy Married With Children? We can’t wait to find out.
